Jambo na Karibu! Hello and welcome to Nairobi, or in the Maasai language, “place of cool water.” You are welcomed at the airport, and then driven to your Norfolk Hotel

Fairmont Norfolk Hotel NairobiThe famous Norfolk, first built in 1904 and now known as the “country hotel” of the city has been linked with Kenya’s history since the very beginnings of “Enkare Nyarobe – the place of the cool water.”

The hunting safaris of Winston Churchill and U.S. President, “Teddy” Roosevelt, left from the Norfolk veranda, a meeting place still frequented by adventurers from all walks of life. Yet for all its ghosts and flamboyant past eh Norfolk remains as delightful as ever. It stands in its own private tropical gardens on the same site upon which it was first built, just a five-minute walk from the city centre.

Each of the 167 rooms and suites at the Norfolk is furnished with air-conditioning, satellite television, radio, mini-bar, telephone, overhead showers and/or bathtubs, and guest safes in most rooms.

Day 02 : Nairobi - Maasai Mara

Lions Yawning in the Maasai Mara0700hrs – This morning you will drive to the fabulous Maasai Mara, Kenya’s premier Game Reserve. Based in an area of over 1500 square kilometres in Kenya, Maasai Mara County is a mixture of savannah plains and Riverine forest.

The Mara supports a huge variety of wildlife including huge herds of plains game, black-maned lion, leopard, cheetah, giraffe, rhino and large numbers of elephant, along with several areas of dense hippo and crocodile populations in the bends of the traversing Mara River.

It is also the home of over 450 birds’ species among which you will find vultures, marabou storks, secretary birds, crowned-cranes and eagles. Arrive in time for lunch at Mara Serena Lodge.

Secreted deep within the Maasai Mara National Reserve, the Mara Serena Safari Lodge is the ultimate safari destination. Set high on a bush-cloaked hill, embraced by arcing vistas and washed by a sea of richly rolling grasslands, it stands centre-stage to one of Africa’s most dramatic wildlife arenas and has a ringside seat for the greatest wildlife show on earth, the legendary migration of the wildebeest.

Day 03 : Maasai Mara Game Reserve

0630hrs – Early morning game drive followed by breakfast
1030hrs – Morning game drive and return for lunch at your lodge

Day 04 : Maasai Mara - Serengeti

0700hrs – After Breakfast drive with picnic lunches to Isebania - Sirari border post whereby you will change vehicles at approximately 1100hrs.
Drive to Serengeti National Park with game drive en- route.

Serena Safari Lodge is situated on a hill, deep in the heart of Central Serengeti. Designed in a rugged, rustic carved wood and stone style, it follows the age-old African theme of thatched circular huts set out as a village.

Local materials are used throughout, and all 66 bedrooms have stunning views of the Serengeti wilderness. Each room is accommodated in a stone-built, traditionally-thatched ‘Riondavel,’ featuring natural stone bathrooms, wildwood balconies, rope-lashed staircases, leopard-print drapes and intricately carved furniture, the overall effect of which is a unique blend of authentic ethnicity and world-class elegance. As for the views, from lilac-streaked sunrise to diamond-domed night, the seemingly sensational Serengeti delivers a series of timeless volcanic vistas that are second to none.

Linked by shaded walkway and clustered around the roaring furnace of the central barbecue arena, the high-domed halls of the two-tier dining room are supports by massive papyrus- topped pillars and embellished with sumptuous ‘Makonde’ carvings suggesting the audience chamber of a tribal king whilst the cuisine features time-honoured safari favourites, local specialities and internationally themed dishes alike.

There are three separate an intimate camps of 25 comfortable bungalows. Attractively built on the style of an old colonial farm and rustically decorated with local materials, full of details of good taste, with the purpose of offering our guests an imaginary journey to Days of the past

Each bungalow consists of 80sq. metres, which includes a private veranda facing the Rift Valley with an suite bathroom, flush toilet and shower.

The huge main building covered with an elegant thatched roof, contain the reception, bar, dinning area, library and lounge with fireplace where guests can enjoy a rest during the cool evenings in the highlands.

Day 07 : Ngorongoro Game Reserve

Breakfast

This morning descend to the crater floor some 2000 feet below the rim with packed lunch, for a half-Day of exploring in this extinct, collapsed volcano. Within the 100 square miles of the crater is one of the densest concentrations of game to be found in Africa.

Acclaimed as one of the wonders of the Natural World, the Crater is a veritable haven for wildlife. Elephants amble along well-worn tracks while large prides of lion jealously guard their territorial domain. Gazelle quietly gaze, surrounded by zebra and wildebeest, whilst the endangered rhino, ever vigilant, feeds not far from the lake.

Magadi Lake, the permanent water source withNgorongoro Crater, often seems to be tinged pink when the throngs of flamingo congregate for food. Ngorongoro bird-life matches the animal population for variety and species. Later drive back to Karatu.

Day 08 : Ngorongoro - Amboseli

After breakfast drive to Arusha for lunch at Impala, and after lunch immediately transfer to Namanga Border whereby you will change vehicles. At approximately 1530hrs transferred overland to the Amboseli National Park, situated at the foot of Mt. Kilimanjaro. The snow-capped peak of Mt. Kilimanjaro, rising above a saucer of clouds, dominates every aspect of Amboseli which covers 1513 square miles.

Enjoy an afternoon game drive enroute to the lodge in Amboseli, where wildlife is concentrated and inevitably picturesque against the massive backdrop of the snow-clad 18,340-foot mountain. All the “Big Five” – lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino – are to be found here, which makes the park a photographer’s paradise. With its dried-up salt lake and weird mirages, there is ample opportunity for spectacular photographs against the impressive backdrop of Mt. Kilimanjaro.

The park is home to many species of heron, stork, duck and geese, including uncommon Madagascar Squacco and Black Herons. African Marsh harrier, Bateleur, Pygmy Falcon, Long-toed Plover, Spotted Thicknee, Tow-banded Courser, Common Pratincole, Grey Hornbill, White-necked Raven, Pangani Longclaw, Long-tailed Fiscal, Yellow-billed Oxpecker, Beautiful Sunbird and Taveta Golden Weaver.

Day 09 : Amboseli – Nairobi

An early morning game drive is scheduled in Amboseli at dawn, an excellent time for game viewing, when the peaks of Kilimanjaro are normally at their most panoramic. After Breakfast depart for Nairobi arriving at the Norfolk Hotel.

In the event of bad weather prevailing, it may be necessary to upgrade to a twin-engine plane, which is approved for instrument flight conditions.
