Chale Island is you very own desert island, located on a tidal saltwater lake just south of the equator. The ancient mangrove forest that surrounds this stunning resort is home to a variety of wildlife, and the island has a long white sand bay protected by a coral reef. Part of the island is considered to be a sacred forest which makes it all the more special for guests at this unique and beautiful setting. The Chale Island resort is constructed entirely of Kenyan materials, and incorporates Swahili thatched-roof structures, mahogany wood and coral blocks. The walls are covered in stucco, and decorated with African art. The island is 600 km from mainland Kenya, about 10 km south of Diani.

Chale Island Rooms

Guests can choose from a variety of accommodations. There are two large towers with conical thatched roofs, housing sixteen semi-circular rooms with en-suite bathrooms. They have verandahs with Swahili day beds, and views of the island and water. Guests at Chale Island can also stay in private thatched-roof bandas (small houses). Superior Bandas include private wood-paneled bathrooms with sliding glass doors leading onto a private garden with an open air shower.

The Chale bandas also have a Jacuzzi tub. The unique Water Bandas are set on stilts over the water, and have beautiful views of the water. There are Jacuzzi tubs on the front verandahs, and guests have direct access to the sea. The large Penthouse Suites are beautiful with their stucco walls, tiled floors, private rooftop Jacuzzis and separate living rooms.

For a more private stay, the Honeymoon Suite is set on a separate islet connected to the rest of the island by a stone bridge. This unique and romantic setting has a lounge featuring an indoor garden. To top it all there is a private Jacuzzi on the cliff face with stunning views of the water. This is not something you will find anywhere else, and a large stone-floored, wood paneled bathroom with two sinks, a sunbathing deck and two gazebos complete this wonderfully romantic and unique suite.

The main Chale Island swimming pool also has its own bar so you don't need to worry too much about where to find your next mocktail.

Davies I just wanted to let you know that we had a wonderful time! John was an excellent driver and guide. As you may have heard my husband became ill overnight and had to contact the physician on call at the Norfolk Hotel. I am very thankful that we were staying there! The doctor arrived promptly checked Rich over and provided the necessary medication to correct the problem and we took off shortly thereafter. Thanks for providing us with another wonderful African experience!
